Scarlet Blue, Silver pulse, and grass bird

Three different themes from three irrelevant dreams. I don't usually remember my dreams, like most people, however, there are certain ones that have undoubtfully left their mark – they are beautifully wicked scenes, captured by my eyes. Personally, I’m not particularly interested in Freud’s scientific explanation; I would rather see them as a visual treasure and say the story neutrally.

Dreams

Series of illustrations based on kid's most common dreams. Dreams can often mean something and are sometimes triggered by certain events in day to day life. I'm interested in visualizing the tension between what happens in waking life versus what happens in the dream state.

Hey There!

Little creepy creatures looking at you with a friendly welcome smile, as if they are saying: “come here, come play with me” but under their innocent look, there might be a whole new different side of them, you will never really know what they are thinking about…

"I want..."
This piece involves having a mass of sculpted minatures. In collaboration with May Chu, Sheila's part of the installation is capturing desires. When our so-called desires are shrunken into tiny things, it allows us to evaluate them more clearly - what do you really want?

Nest It is a bird cage inspired by the shape of the nest of weaver birds. I am always amazed by the shape of different bird nests. I am trying to capture the poetic aesthetic and reproduce it in to a piece that you can fit it in to any interior place or gardens as well as adding a bit of lively elegence in to your living environment.

泡(pao)'s balloon 泡(pao) is a wedge head carrot with a bad attitude. His background is dubious, even he doubts his own existence. One day, pao finds that a balloon has grown behind his head. Pao doesn't know it, but this marks the start of a change which is to affect him... in a way.

Pop-pup Popcornbox
We dream about the unknown world or future while watching movies.

And also share that moments, memories, or emotion with companions. Pop-pup box represents the dreams and sharing.

It drips with popcorn (which is dreams), and helps audiences to share.

General popcorn box is hard to share as its typical design, and it disturbs to concentrate on movie. For those reason, I designed the Pop-pup box. It looks a normal box, but it extends. Now there is no need to seat closer and disturb companions. Enjoy movies with Pop-pup!

I love to try now!!

Every man's memory is his private literature.
- Aldous Huxley

Our ancestor’s memories are handed down from one generation to another through our dreams. Inspired by the Romance Classics as well as by the history of my home town Odessa, I have created the images that show fragments of one girl's dream, where she travels through eras, discovering her family history and experiencing it on her own.

The Kaleidoscope of Impressions

Dreams are but fleeting impressions of events gone by, over before you
know it but vivid in the moment, only to be forgotten when you return,
drowsy, to the real world. How do dreams look to the waking? Can
meaning be tacked on to the surreal images melded together by our
unconscious, and what does our unconscious self say about our
conscious being? These fleeting tumultuous images and relations seem like
a puff of smoke, quick to dissipate when challenged by the many problems
of the waking world, only to be made solid and heightened to the
length and breadth of an epic in our Dreams.

Day Dream

Dreaming unconsciously or consciously, we constantly dream towards our future at daytime and unconsciously at night time whilst we are asleep. “Day Dream” is a cushion sofa to dream away while we are sitting awake or lying asleep.  The cloud-like ‘Day Dream’ chair is adjustable to the users own wish.

Spirit of Love (painting)

Shakespeare said: "All love ends in a meeting", a rare beauty of thought. I think a man can be happy only with a woman. A woman can be truly happy only with the man. Love is one of the major states of man. I am inspired by love. It gives strength, it opens up the imagination ...

The Dream Effect

Hypnagogia is a term used to describe the crossover between dreams and reality.

What excites the dormant mind? How do you experience an environment in comparison to your neighbour?

This experimental piece seeks to investigate the varying responses of the public to the same visual/audial stimulus.

This would be achieved by encasing the public in an separate environment, leaving them to experience this unique yet familiar Hypnagogic effect.

Buried I’m exploring the idea of the ‘authentic self’ and question its relationship/place within society’s perception of reality. I studied Freud’s text The Unconscious which helped me to explore the relationship between our unconscious and an external reality. From this I want to show that external reality is the individual’s perception. My concept developed after I began to make links with the authentic self and transient natures. The work is to understand that the nature of life as transient is a way of getting closer to your authentic self. I decided I would bury my negatives, which cause this diminishing effect, and see transient nature’s reaction with the chemicals of the negative. I mirrored my processes with my concept and began to look at the transience of the photographic object.

Melancholic

We often dream while we are unconscious. As same as the reality life, we can not control what we want to dream while we are asleep. For me, I think dreams often summarise/related with the happenings of a day and sometimes the relation to prophecy also appears in dream, which wakens the consciousness in us after we dream.

My paintings express about the dreams that I have dreamt recently that was most unforgettable in relation to this.

Inter somnia meaning amongst dreams, is a collaboration between two sisters who have combined their practice of photography and illustration. These two opposing mediums are brought together to fuse reality with an altered state of the illusory. A photograph bares witness to what is played out in front of it, yet this truth is fragmented by the presence of the paintings’ embellishing nature.

The Broken Link The link between dream world and real world has been broken. Now people everywhere are being trapped in their dreams not being able to separate what is real and what is a dream, creating chaos in society. Two young students have become victims of this tragedy. See the story through their eyes and if they will be able to keep their sanity and solve what has created this madness.

Spiral Loop

This is an experimental short film, that focuses on my concept of time in a surreal way. Everybody seems to have unlimited time, but it binds us strictly indeed, so we are living in a circle of life. Generally, I’m trying to see how time loops.

The Heaven in the Lake 'IKEBANA' is simply the Japanese flower arrangement. However, I strongly believe that this decorative art brings the deep understanding of controlling colours, shapes, tactile and spaces into the same place. The reason I put one of my 'IKEBANA' projects at this exhibition is that the 'good product' also means how various elements are successfully shaped into an object. As a product designer, I'd like to manage all different elements in beautiful ways like 'IKEBANA'.

The Submadream
It is fascinating when remembering deep sleep entertainment. Sometimes it's the greatest comedy and sometimes it can be the greatest fears. Whether it is positive or negative it is fascinating to tell it while constantly remembering surreal fragmatic details. At times one can play the director, other times its seen in third person, but in any case it's a personal journey waiting to be experienced.

The Moment of Miracle

Dream is able to divide past and future, reality and abstract.
Dream has a reality and brings emotional feeling but nothing happened in the real life.
However, that emotional feeling is certain.
This ambiguity brings abstract image in the dream.

"I had a dream.."

I had a dream to create an object from the waste. However, the idea was to transform that waste into something aesthetically appealing. LED lighting enhanced the features of PP and suggested to create a distinctive atmosphere in the darkness.
