Project Information

Project Introduction and Outline

The Dreams Exhibition is going to be held on Tuesday 31 of August to Saturday 4 September (2 weeks before the London Design Festival 2010 and during First Thursdays) at Shoreditch Town Hall Basement Galleries. With 2 days set up, 5 days show, and 1 day pack up.

We are aiming to get 50 designers/artists to join this project. You can interpret this theme Dreams in any kind of way and format. For the whole space, the hiring fee, promotion fee, and private view night, will mean a charge of £60 per exhibitor. Chance of having this sum of money returned back to the exhibitors depends on amount of funds received via sponsorship and donations during this project.

Project Brief

Project Context

The theme for the exhibition is “dreams”.

‘Dreams’ can be interpreted in many ways, and not always to describe the experience people have when sleeping. Aspirations, idealism, halucinations or even the sensation of feeling something so surreal that it seems out of this world are some of the few examples. Consider basing your project on personal experience or through conducting an experiment; a scientific approach, through existing theories or your own insights. What is the aim of your project? Is to inform, to influence, advise? To provide a solution or is to include the audience in an amazing experience?

Description

  • We would like you to produce a piece to display and interpret your idea(s).
  • This is a creative brief, perfect for any discipline; fine arts, performance, animation, fashion, film, installation, furniture, product, poetry, photography etc. the list is endless.
  • You can have more than one final outcome.
  • There is no size restriction for your piece, however, please take transport issues into consideration.
  • Individual or team projects are welcome.

As this is brief outside of any academic college or university assessment, you may use existing work as long as you feel it fits the brief. Considerations for health and safety are crutcial. Health and safety guidelines are to be downloaded here: Page 1 Page 2.

Requirements and criteria

We will review the design and ideas on determined dates. Please remember this is a standalone project which will not only reflect the quality of the whole show, but yourself as an individual artist or designer. We strongly advise you to research, start the project as early as you can to ensure a well-rounded project.
